We liberated the country... ...now we liberate the people of East Timor

About CNRT

It is time to save the people of East Timor...

...from political, social and economic atrophy. For this we need a radical transformation in Government:

  • From a culture of nepotism to a culture of justice
  • From a culture of servility to a culture of transparency
  • From a culture of personal interests and to a culture of social solidarity
  • From a culture of power to a culture of serving
  • From a culture of arrogance to a culture of tolerance
  • From a culture of corruption to a culture of responsibility

The people of East Timor did not fight for independence just to have their own flag or national anthem. They did not fight for governors who put their individual interests and those of some groups above the superior interests of the country.

The people of East Timor knew that their dignity would not come automatically through the freedom of the country. It would have to come through the actions of its leaders. This will only happen if the laws and Government of the country are formed for the benefit of the people, if decisions are made with our heroic, yet humble and suffering population front of mind.

Over the last five years of Fretilin Government the population has listened and tried to adjust to their new democratic rights, but all they have seen is a state of political intolerance and exclusion, a culture of servility, bribery, corruption and nepotism. This situation is simply unacceptable.

Seeing this a congress of citizens of East Timor have assumed the responsibility of representing the people and stopping the suffering of its population.

Congresso Nacional da Reconstrucao de Timor (CNRT) was therefore founded in Dili on 28th March 2007 to free the East Timorese citizens from their suffering and guarantee the hope of a happy and prosperous future for its people.

Why Congress?

Because, differently to other political parties, CNRT was founded to give the citizens a voice, uniting people in congress to fulfil their responsibilities to the people of East Timor.

Why National?

Because CNRT is for all the people of East Timor, from East to West.

Why Reconstruction?

Because we need to rebuild our country. Rebuild the social fabric, rebuild national unity and rebuild stability and security. We need to rebuild Government policies, rebuild the faith and trust of the population, rebuild our infrastructure and rebuild the image of our nation in the eyes of the International community.

We have freed the country – now we will free the people!
